Background and History
WFN Strategies was founded in 2001 with a view to providing telecommunications engineering for remote and unique communications requirements.
We accomplished our first telecoms projects, including the provision of post 9/11 submarine cable security study in 2001 and established Submarine Telecoms Forum magazine later that year.
We accomplished our first oil & gas telecoms project in 2002, and in 2004, we engineered and procured broadband, fiber and trunked radio technologies for Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. In 2005, we designed the first-ever Gulf of Mexico inter-platform submarine cable system, as well as accomplished our first broadband wireless system.
In 2007, we were selected to design the first-ever Australian oil & gas inter-platform submarine cable system, as well as assist with the implementation of the first-ever optical festoon in Angola. We also acquired and moved to our present office in Sterling, Virginia. Also in 2007, we began a multi-year engineering study of a broadband terrestrial Antarctic telecoms link between McMurdo Station and Amundsen Scott Station, South Pole utilizing optical cable, microwave, and troposcatter technologies.
In 2008, we were selected by the submarine telecommunications industry association, SubOptic, to act as Media Partner in support of its upcoming conference in Yokohama in 2010.
